How to use Verb + のようになる

How to use Verb + のようになる

A gamer
Just when did I become like........ THIS!!?

アニメを見てから日本に興味を持つようになりました

I developed an interest in Japan after watching Anime (repetitiously).

Verb + ようになる is causative; there’s always a reason when verb +ようになる is included in a sentence. It doesn’t always have to be the case but is rather common. Imagine stepping into the water for the first time…… that’s what ようになる sort of feels like. Fresh and New.

So, let’s look at an example:

イギリスに旅行してから毎朝英語ニュースを見るようになった

I started watching news in English after touring the U.K.

So, it’s as if touring the U.K. gave the speaker a new feel and perception of the English culture where everything is in English. That might have invoked new feelings, enabling the speaker to repetitiously stay in that environment( English language).

彼女と毎日一緒に過ごすことで彼女を知るようになる

By spending time with her everyday, I get to know her better.

知るようになる can also be used for someone you don’t know well, as long as there’s some repetitious engagement (or even a limited engagement)

However, all three examples above have causes which are more repetitious than of an instance.

ジョニーデップと会って始めて彼の素の姿が分かるようになる

After meeting Johnny Depp (in person) I got to know him as a person.

This is more of an instant, since not everyone gets to meet Johnny Depp on a regular basis. Maybe we do, but on the TV.
